Our unit caters for newborns requiring targeted or long-term intensive care. The neonatology unit welcomes around 600 newborns a year, including around a hundred children aged less than 32 weeks at birth.

The most frequent reason for hospitalization is prematurity (less than 37 weeks gestation), but it can also be the onset of infection, low birth weight, severe jaundice, or more rarely a lack of oxygen during delivery (resulting in neonatal asphyxia) or a congenital anomaly.

The sometimes complex care provided is always viewed from a relational angle, with the emphasis on individualized care (NIDCAP) and the importance of the bond between the child and its parents. The neonatology department works in tandem with the maternity unit and the MIC (Maternal Intensive Care) unit.

The department has 25 beds in 16 rooms, all equipped with appropriate monitoring equipment.
Most rooms can accommodate a bed for one of the parents. This arrangement encourages maximum parental presence and skin-to-skin contact, recognized for its beneficial effect on neonatal development. Particular attention has been paid to soundproofing. The unit also features a large parent-baby area and close-knit rooms.

Our unit is located at the Clinique CHC MontLégia. It is a reference service for several maternity units in the provinces of Liège, Luxembourg and Limbourg.
